Zimbabwe announce squad for India T20I series
Tsiga receives first T20I selection after impressive performances in Zimbabwe’s Test side
HARARE: Zimbabwe have named their 15-player squad for the upcoming three-match T20I home series against India, with wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga receiving his maiden call-up in the format.
Batting all-rounder Wessly Madhevere and fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri have also returned to the squad for the series, which will be played at the Harare Sports Club on July 23, 25 and 26.
The trio replace Clive Madande, Tinotenda Maposa and Tashinga Musekiwa from the squad that featured in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh.
Nyamhuri returns after recovering from a niggle that curtailed his involvement in the preceding ODI series against Bangladesh. Tanaka Chivanga, who replaced him for the third ODI, has retained his place in the squad.
Zimbabwe head into the series after suffering a 2-1 T20I series defeat to Bangladesh earlier this month. However, Sikandar Raza’s side enjoyed success in the longer formats, winning the one-off Test by an innings and claiming the ODI series.
The hosts now face a sterner challenge against reigning T20 World Cup champions India, despite the visitors enduring a difficult run since lifting the title. India suffered a 2-0 series defeat in Ireland in June before losing 4-0 in England.
At the T20 World Cup, Zimbabwe stunned Australia to qualify for the Super Eight stage before suffering defeats to India, South Africa and the West Indies.
Tsiga has represented Zimbabwe in 10 Tests but is yet to make his white-ball international debut. Meanwhile, Madhevere returns to the T20I side for the first time since July 2025, having most recently featured in the Test and ODI series against Bangladesh.
