Not long ago, every commercial flight featured bulky flight bags filled with paper charts, manuals, weather reports and operational documents. Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs)have transformed that process, replacing paper with a digital tool that gives pilots instant access to the information they need throughout a flight.
Today, EFBs are a standard fixture in commercial cockpits, and airlines depend on them to support safe, efficient operations while meeting increasingly demanding turnaround schedules. But as their adoption has grown, so has a less visible challenge.
The focus is no longer on achieving digital flight operations, but ensuring every EFB delivers accurate, up-to-date and standardised information in real time. Effective EFB management relies on capabilities such as Application Management to ensure only approved flight applications are deployed. Content Management enables airlines to distribute the latest charts, manuals and operational documents centrally, ensuring crews always have access to consistent, approved information.
Equally important are Offline Policy Persistence, which allows EFBs to remain fully operational during flight while synchronising policies and updates once connectivity is restored. Device-Level Actions enable IT teams to remotely lock, wipe or place lost devices into a secure state to protect sensitive operational data.
