Ebonyi, Revoke The Bail Of Elom Monday
The Advocacy for Alleged Witches urges the Ebonyi State government to revoke the bail of Elom Monday. Mr. Monday and other suspects are being prosecuted for witchcraft-related offences in the state. Monday has been using various means to evade justice. Two days ago, he brought some police officers from Enugu and arrested a local chief and advocate, Chijioke Eze. Local sources told AfAW that the arrest took place after a court session in Abakiliki. The police unsuccessfully tried to arrest the son of Thomas Eze (unrelated to Chief Eze), who is one of the witnesses in the case against Elom Monday and others. Mr Eze, whose name was not mentioned in the petition, was taken to the state CID in Enugu. Efforts to speak to the PPRO and CP Enugu state have been unsuccessful. AfAW condemns the arrest and urges the police in Enugu to resist being used to victimize innocent people and avoid punishment.
The Advocacy for Alleged Witches sent one of its advocates to Enugu to help secure the release of Chief Chijioke Eze.
The advocate arrived in Enugu yesterday and is currently negotiating his release. The police asked for 500 thousand naira before they could release Eze. AfAW has reached out to the officer in charge of administration and filed a complaint. The officer responded, apologizing for this development. In his message to AfAW, he stated, “Sorry, I am so much down in health. I just woke up at 12 midnight after taking medication around 4 pm yesterday, and fell asleep. I hope the suspect was released yesterday. If he was not, I am really very sorry. I will compel the I.P.O. to release him as soon as it is daybreak. I am very sorry, please”.
He then messaged again: “Please, Sir, kindly ask the surety to come for the release of the suspect as early as he can”. AfAW commends the CID for a diligent handling of the case.
The advocate will be at the station this morning to ensure Mr Eze’s release and his return to his community in Ebonyi.
In a related development, Elom Monday recently facilitated some revenge attacks against the children of Thomas Eze. He mobilized some thugs who assaulted, slapped, and macheted them. One of Thomas’ sons, Sunday, was seriously injured. AfAW implores the director of public prosecution to get the judge to revoke the bail of Elom Monday and others being tried in Abakiliki.
Elom Monday and others implicated in witch-hunting activities must be made to answer for their crimes.

Revenge Attacks And Witch Hunts In Ebonyi State
The Advocacy for Alleged Witches condemns revenge attacks against relatives of an accused person in Ebonyi state. Reports reaching AfAW say that a mob has attacked the children of Thomas Eze from Aguebele in Ohaukwu. Eze is a victim of a witch hunt in his community and one of the witnesses in the prosecution of suspects. He has always feared that suspects and their relatives would attack him and his family members in retaliation for their arrest and prosecution. In the past weeks, Eze and other witnesses have urged the court not to release the suspects on bail. They told AfAW that the suspects had threatened to attack and kill upon their release. But the state prosecutor insisted that the offence was bailable.
Yesterday, some community leaders contacted AfAW, informing it about an attack in the community that targeted relatives of Thomas Eze. They sent photos showing serious wounds and the bloodied bodies of victims. One of the victims of the attack, Sunday, recounted to AfAW from his hospital bed what happened two days ago. According to him, he got a call that a local mob linked to those being prosecuted had assaulted one of his siblings and left him partially deaf. They slapped him on the ear, and he is unable to hear.
Sunday rushed to rescue his brother. But on reaching there, the mob attacked him with machetes and stabbed him with broken bottles. He bled profusely and collapsed. Some good-spirited individuals came and took him to the palace of the Igwe of the community and then to the hospital, where he is currently receiving some treatment.
Sunday has made an entry at the local police station in Ohaukwu. The police said they would need to be mobilized before they could arrest the suspects. AfAW is supporting the medical treatment for Sunday and his brother.
AfAW has informed the commissioner of police and the police public relations officer in Ebonyi state about the incident, urging them to take necessary action. The police should be proactive and not reactive in combating abuses linked to witch hunts. The state needs to take legal and administrative measures to end witch hunting, trial by ordeal, and jungle justice in the communities. Abuses linked to witchcraft beliefs and traditional oath taking are rampant and perpetrators get away with their crimes. Witch hunters and persecutors are not brought to justice. In most cases, justice is delayed and eventually denied.
The Advocacy for Alleged Witches calls for the arrest and prosecution of those who perpetrated these savage attacks. AfAW urges the court to revoke the bail of all suspects involved in this horrific assault.

Alleged Penis Theft And Forced Confession In Rivers State
People accused of magically stealing people’s genitals have often been beaten and made to admit to the offence. The case of Daso, from Ogan-Ama, Okrika Mainland, Rivers State, amply illustrates an anomaly. An advocate, Westkey Gogo, visited Daso shortly after the police released him on bail. He recounted to Mr Gogo what happened on Monday, 22 June 2026: “I went for football training in Igurita. While returning home, I passed a POS stand where I noticed a man staring at me. I did not know him, and I am not sure he knew me either. We neither greeted nor had any physical contact. As soon as I walked past him, he suddenly shouted, ‘Thief! Thief!’ Within seconds, more than thirty people surrounded me. They began accusing me of making the man’s manhood shrink and then became non-functional”.
He further explained the ensuing mob action: “I was never allowed to explain myself because I was slapped and severely beaten. The assault was so intense that I nearly collapsed”. But officers from the local vigilance group, Official Security Planning and Anti-Crime Control (OSPAC), and the police later arrived. Daso describes what happened: “When OSPAC security personnel arrived, they also joined in beating me. They threatened me repeatedly, leaving me confused and frightened. Because of the pressure and violence, I started agreeing to many of the accusations. Later, the police arrived, led by an officer named Emma. Some members of his team also assaulted me and threatened to hang me upside down if I did not confess. Under such intimidation and duress, I had no choice but to agree to the allegations”. Mr. Daso reported that during the assault, he lost his ATM card and an unspecified amount of cash. The mob also tore his clothes. Mr Gogo also noted that Daso had a cut on his head. An officer of OSPAC cut him with a knife in the course of torturing him.
Mr. Daso repeatedly expressed his gratitude to AFAW, stating that without the organization’s intervention, he believed that he could have been left in police custody. He thanked AFAW for ensuring that his case received attention and for providing support during a difficult period.
The Advocacy for Alleged Witches declares that those who make accusations of magical stealing of the penis raise false alarms and should be prosecuted and jailed. As the case of Daso has shown, the innocent are accused, abused, and violated; those accused of penis theft admit under duress. The mob beat them to admit guilt, to accept that they did what they did not do. In some cases, security officers, including the police, torture and force them to confess to a crime they never committed. AfAW is consulting its lawyers at the moment and may bring a fundamental rights case against those who accused, tortured, and forced Daso to confess and admit to a crime he never committed.

Policing Allegations Of Penis Theft In Rivers State
A recent case in a community in Rivers state has revealed worrisome gaps and disconnects in policing and management of allegations of penis theft in Nigeria. A video that circulated on social media two days ago showed a young man being beaten and manhandled by officers of the Rivers State Vigilance Group (OSPAC). The Facebook post by Oriental Times states: “Rivers State Vigilance Group, OSPAC, apprehends man in Igwuruta for allegedly stealing another man’s penis, a few minutes after begging him for money”. The video shows a man being beaten and interrogated by a suspected officer of OSPAC. One officer asked his name, and he said, “Daso”. He asked him, “Are you from where?” He said, “From Okirika”. The officer then said, ” So you came from Okrika to make a person to lose his penis?
The accused denied the allegation. A local advocate told AfAW that the incident started when the accuser held the accused at the Igwuruta roundabout in Ikwerre. The mob gathered and started beating the accused. But some OSPAC officers intervened. They took the accused by the side, tied the hands with a rope as they interrogated him. They were beating, kicking, slapping and coercing him to admit to magically stealing the penis. Daso had injuries no his head. The OSPAC officers tore his clothes.
The accuser told officers that Daso had touched him, and his penis disappeared. The officers checked, but the penis was intact. The accuser claimed that the penis shrank and was not operative. That Daso had made him sexually impotent.
The officers took the accuser and the accused to a nearby police station. But the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) was not on seat. Daso was detained, but the accuser was allowed to go. The DPO interviewed both parties the following day. He told them that the police did not handle mystical or magical matters. However, the DPO told the parties that if they did not resolve the matter, he would charge the case in court today so that the court decides. Daso remained in police custody.
The Advocacy for Alleged Witches condemns the allegation of penis theft against Daso and the mismanagement by officers of OSPAC and the police. He who alleges proves. The burden of proof of penis theft is with the accuser, not the accused. Those who make allegations of magical penis theft violate the law. They raise false alarms and incite violence and abuse of suspects. Those who alleged magical penis theft should be tried, prosecuted, and jailed. It is wrong for the officers of OSPAC to have beaten and abused Daso. It is wrong for the police to have detained the accused because he committed no crime. Nobody can magically thieve or disappear the penis.
AfAW calls for the arrest and prosecution of Daso’s accuser. AfAW urges the authorities to arrest and prosecute OSPAC officers and others who assaulted, tortured, and brutalized Mr Daso. All erring police and vigilance officers should be queried and punished for their unprofessional conduct, and for abusing a person that they were constitutionally mandated to protect and defend.
Accusations of penis theft have no basis in law, reason, science, or reality. AfAW urges the Nigerian public to abandon superstition and embrace science and critical thinking. AfAW has offered to test the man who claimed that his penis was magically stolen. The Advocacy for Alleged Witches is sending a legal counsel to the Divisional Police Office to facilitate the release of the victim.
