Egypt is seriously considering a bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations while also planning for Mohamed Salah to remain with the national team through the 2030 World Cup, according to Egyptian Football Association (EFA) board member Hamada El-Sherbini.
“During our meetings, we were keen to discuss the possibility of hosting the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations. We are fully capable of staging the tournament, and we have outstanding infrastructure that would enable us to successfully host the competition,” El-Sherbini told Ahramonline.

“We are studying the matter very seriously, and the political leadership is committed to providing every possible form of support. Egypt has the capability to host both the FIFA World Cup and the FIFA Futsal World Cup, but securing the hosting rights for the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations is currently our top priority,” he added.
El-Sherbini also expressed confidence that captain Mohamed Salah will feature at the 2030 World Cup, stating: “Mohamed Salah will still be part of the Egypt national team at the 2030 FIFA World Cup. We have major challenges ahead as we strive to achieve further success for Egyptian football in the years to come.”
Egypt last hosted the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2019.
