India to Host BRICS Environment Meetings in New Delhi on August 17–18

New Delhi, August 16, 2026: India is set to host key BRICS environmental meetings at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on August 17 and 18, bringing together representatives of BRICS member countries to discuss shared environmental priorities and strengthen cooperation for a more resilient and sustainable future.

The programme will begin on August 17 with the meeting of BRICS Senior Officers of the Environment Working Group, along with the Contact Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

The discussions will be followed by the 12th BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting on August 18, providing a platform for environment ministers from BRICS member countries to exchange views on major environmental challenges and explore opportunities for deeper cooperation.

The meetings are being convened under the overarching theme of India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 — “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

The agenda reflects India’s focus on encouraging collective approaches to environmental protection, climate-related challenges and sustainable development among BRICS nations. The deliberations are expected to highlight the importance of innovation, cooperation and coordinated action in addressing environmental pressures while supporting sustainable economic development.

The New Delhi meetings are part of India’s wider engagement as BRICS Chair in 2026, with sustainability and environmental cooperation forming an important component of the chairship agenda.
