Two Police Constables have been suspended over leaked video footage showing a traffic officer being struck by a motor vehicle.

The video showing Constable Ieti Panipasa being hit and carried along the road by black vehicle has been widely circulated on social media.

Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Afamasaga Samuelu told SGN the video was from a government-installed CCTV camera.

The video footage is from a CCTV camera installed at the Lepea intersection. The footage was being viewed by Police as part of their investigations.

Two female Police Constables have been suspended in relation to the leaked video, the Acting Commissioner said.

“E to’alua leoleo lea ua suspend ona o le liki i tua o video o le case lea na lavea ai le alii leoleo..”

Both officers have worked with the Ministry for less than 12 months. “E le’i atoa le tausaga talu ona faauu ma ulufale mai i le Matagaluega o Leoleo.

The video was leaked from the Ministry of Police’s CCTV camera operating room. The operations centre for cameras installed around Apia was part of the Australian Federal Police assistance in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) Meeting in 2024.

Leiataua said the CCTV cameras and video footage are for police investigations only.

“O CCTV footage ia, e iai lava le policy na fai ai.. it is for Police investigation only..

“E lē pule a le tagata ia, a fia share lava ua share..  ona e aafia ai foi isi tagata..”

Police are continuing with their investigation, said Leiataualesa.

“O la e fai le suesuega ona faatino lea o le process masani i lalo o le tulafono.”
