Nollywood actress and producer Halima Abubakar has announced her return to public life after what she described as a 13-year health and personal ordeal, saying she is now healed and ready to resume her career while dedicating more time to faith-based projects and humanitarian work.
Speaking during the Holy Ghost Revival programme in Lagos, Abubakar attributed her recovery to prayers organised by Apostle Queen Belemzy, Founder of Queen Belemzy Ministries, (School of Power), whom she described as “a woman of God.”
The actress said she decided to publicly share her testimony to assure fans that she was alive and well.
“I am proud of what God has done in my life. Those who have seen me down can now see me in the flesh. This is real,” she said.
Abubakar, who introduced herself as a youth ambassador for peace, a producer and founder of the Halima Abubakar Foundation, said she had stayed away from the entertainment scene for over a decade due to her challenges.
She also alleged that an unidentified individual had been impersonating her, describing it as identity theft. According to her, the matter is already before a court, although she claimed she was initially unaware of the legal proceedings.
“There is somebody saying she is Halima while I am alive. This is identity theft, and it is an offence,” she said.
Reflecting on her experience in the movie industry, the actress criticised what she described as a lack of empathy and unity among some practitioners, urging colleagues to support one another during difficult times.
“We need love. One person’s pain should be everybody’s pain. But in my industry, your pain is your pain,” she said.
Abubakar also claimed she was the target of a prolonged smear campaign designed to destroy her reputation but said she survived through her faith in God.
Looking ahead, the actress announced plans to release a book detailing her experience and to produce faith-based films with moral lessons.
She expressed concern over the growing number of movies centred on ritual practices, arguing that such productions could negatively influence young people.
“I want to produce movies about God. Enough of ritual movies. We need to let people know that God is still in the business of making lives brand new,” she said.
Abubakar added that while she would continue acting, her immediate focus would be on film production and expanding the activities of her foundation, which supports hygiene initiatives and persons with disabilities.
She also paid tribute to the cleric she credited with praying for her recovery, describing her as patient, wise and instrumental to her renewed faith.
The actress thanked members of the media and supporters for standing by her, expressing optimism about the next phase of her career and personal life.
In her response, the founder of Queen Belemzy Ministries, School of Power, Apostle Belema Abili, said the ongoing Holy Ghost Revival Tour was inspired by what she described as the miraculous healing and transformation of Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, whom she said now serves as a living testimony of God’s power.
Speaking, the cleric said the tour was designed to strengthen people’s faith by showcasing testimonies of lives she believes have been transformed through prayer.
According to her, the revival has already held in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos, with plans to continue in other countries.
“We are touring with somebody that Jesus transformed. We want the world to see what God can do. People will see her face-to-face, their faith will be strengthened, and they too will come for healing and deliverance,” she said.
The preacher expressed confidence that the same divine intervention she said restored Abubakar would also bring positive change to Nigeria.
“Jesus touched Halima, and everything bad left. That same Jesus is here to touch Nigeria, and everything bad will move away. Nigeria will be great again,” she declared.
Recounting her first encounter with the actress, Apostle Belemzy said she became concerned after watching videos of Abubakar circulating online earlier this year and decided to reach out through members of her ministry.
She said the actress initially declined her offer of prayers due to previous experiences with individuals she described as false prophets, but later contacted her seeking spiritual support.
According to the cleric, she prayed for Abubakar through a video call and witnessed what she described as an immediate transformation.
She further claimed that following the prayers, the actress, who had reportedly struggled with sleeplessness and persistent headaches, experienced relief and recovery.
The cleric also disclosed that she supported Abubakar financially during the period and has since continued to mentor her spiritually.
She said the actress would now participate in preaching during the revival meetings as part of her new faith journey.
Speaking on her ministry, Apostle Queen Belemzy said, she began preaching online in 2016 after what she described as a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit.
Before entering ministry, she said she spent about 15 years in Houston, Texas, United States, as an events and party promoter, organising celebrity events featuring several African entertainers.
She explained that her ministry has largely remained digital, attracting followers through social media platforms, particularly YouTube, where she conducts teachings and prayer sessions.
According to her, the online ministry has taken her to nearly 20 countries across Europe, Africa and other regions on evangelistic tours.
The cleric also spoke about security concerns during her visits to Nigeria, alleging that she had previously been a victim of false prophets, making her cautious whenever she returns to the country.
She said her latest visit, which was initially intended to be brief, was extended after she believed God directed her to organise revival programmes in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos.
Apostle Belemzy maintained that the revival meetings were not only aimed at preaching the gospel but also at encouraging people to believe that “God is still in the business of transforming lives.”
