Global customer experience (CX) and business process outsourcing firm Konecta has launched its first global generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Egypt.

The Cairo-based facility will develop and deploy generative and agentic AI solutions to support Konecta’s global operations.

The investment positions Egypt as a regional hub for AI-driven CX services and export-focused digital jobs.

The inauguration was attended by Ahmed El Harany, vice-chairman for the Middle East and Africa at Konecta, and Ahmed Elzaher, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), alongside officials from the ICT ministry.

According to the government, the launch follows a memorandum of understanding signed in January 2025 between the state and the company.

Backed by a $100 million investment, the initiative supports Konecta’s regional expansion and positions Egypt as a hub serving clients across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas.

The facility will also provide services in data analytics, technical support and Internet of Things solutions.

Konecta currently employs 800 professionals in Egypt and plans to expand its workforce to approximately 3,000 specialists by the end of 2028.

“Egypt is not just a delivery location for Konecta – it is our regional headquarters and home to our first global CoE for GenAI,” said Ahmed El Harany, vice-chairman for the Middle East and Africa at Konecta.

“The growth of our team reflects the depth of Egyptian talent and the confidence our global clients place in AI-powered digital customer experience delivered from Cairo.”

Government officials said the expansion supports the transfer of international expertise to local talent.

ITIDA said the partnership aligns with national goals to increase service exports and create specialised digital jobs.

Industry analysts note that Egypt is emerging as a competitive outsourcing and AI services destination, driven by its skilled workforce, cost advantages and government-backed digital strategy.
